Using The Ba-gua as a Compass

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the August 22nd, 2010

bagua

The later heavenly ba-gua map discovered by Yu the Great represents a time when heaven and earth are clearly distinguishable. The trigrams are positioned according the movement of the sun in the sky (15 degrees latitude per hour) demarcating the time of day and seasons. The ancient sages, being astute astronomers, observed the heavens (constellations) and sun position to build their cities, plant crops, and for basic survival. Historically, the Chinese sage referred to direction as 5 cardinal points and 8 points of reference. The five points align with the movement of the sun in the sky (East, South, West & North) and the center, considered to be a stationary point or ground we stand on (Earth). The eight points reflect the eight compass directions (4 cardinal and 4 inter-cardinal). The 8 trigrams relate to the eight basic images or phenomena found in nature, as feng shui is based upon these laws. The trigrams (Later Heavenly Template) are positioned according to the cycle of daily time and the seasons as follows:

· Zhen – East: Family – Heritage – Elders – Health

· Xun – Southeast: Fortunate Blessings – Wealth

· Li – South: Illumination – Soul’s Mission

· Kun – Southwest: Relationships – Receptivity – Commitment

· Dui – West: Joy – Creativity – Children

· Qian – Northwest: Mentors – Cultural Travel – Heavenly Guidance

· Kan – North: Life Journey – Career

· Gen – Northeast: Self-cultivation – Knowledge – Inner Spirit

How to Use the Ba-gua as a Compass:

Follow these simple steps to use the Ba-gua template as a compass.

1. Determine the facing direction of the home or building by utilizing a compass and standing with your back to the front door while looking out towards the street (note direction). Most of the time the front door is the facing direction; however, if it is hidden or takes on a tortoise position, then look for the wide-open space for the facing point.

2. Take an architectural floor plan of the home or one drawn to scale.

3. Mark the 8 compass points on the floor plan starting with the facing direction creating (8) 45° pie-wedges. Use a 24 mountain template for ease and accuracy.

4. Superimpose the ba-gua over the floor plan making sure you spin and rotate to align with facing direction. In other words, if the facing direction is 134° southeast, then spin the ba-gua compass to Fortunate Blessings (SE) and overlay from there.

August 2010 Flying Star Forecast

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the August 11th, 2010

Flying Star Feng Shui or Xuan Kong Fei Xing reflects the energy that impacts our homes and offices every day. The dynamic is based on the fact that the Universe is in a constant state of flux. This can be seen in the seasons and time of day. Understanding the basics of energy waxing and waning is the key factor behind an analysis. Obviously energy that is waxing is vibrant and as a result life seems to flow unimpeded. On the other hand, energy that is waning and decayed can create obstacles and health challenges.

In traditional flying star methods, using form school principles to support and activate vibrant qi and quiet problematic qi is the key behind accurate remedies. Using form is the most powerful way to work with energy, as we note this in nature. Understanding 5 element theory and its phases of support, reduction and controlling measures allows us to find the right element to place in the proper form school position (water or mountain) for either activation (sheng qi) or closing down (sha qi).

Flying star feng shui is an advance technique that requires close analysis and understanding of core feng shui principles. The flying stars are represented by the numbers 1-9 as they move in a sequential order around the Lo Shu grid. According to ancient Chinese classics, a giant tortoise found in the River Luo showed a mathematical pattern of numbers that corresponded exactly to the Magic Square adding up to 15. The number 15 having significance representing the number of days in a Chinese season, number of degrees in anyone of the 24 mountains on the Lo Pan compass, and 15 degrees of longitude traversed by the sun in 1 hour. Movement of light in terms of space and time tells us how matter is subject to change.

9 star ki astrol

For a proper analysis, a flying star chart must represent the energy of the space that is determined by the year the structure was built and the facing direction (1st, 2nd or 3rd ) mountain of that portent. Then and only then can a proper analysis begin. To evaluate how time impacts this inherent energy the element of the current year and month enter the equation. This is when a qualified consultant can begin the evaluation and inform the client of what to expect for the year and each month.

2010 is a 8 year (for more information see:http://5elementdesigns.com/blog/category/feng-shui-news/) and scroll down to “2010 ~ 8 Year Flying Star Forecast.”

August 2010: The month of August begins on 8th and ends on Sept. 7th (meaning cures are placed on the 8th of August and removed on the 7th of Sept.). The star for August is the 5 Yellow Sha Star. This star in an 8 period age (2004-2024) is problematic. The 5 sha star does elementally assist the auspicious 8 water and mountain stars; therefore, giving it energy and losing its sha status. This occurs only when there is an 8 star in the same directional portent. The 5 star indicates trouble with authority, other people causing trouble, accidents, misfortune, sickness, and unsettled energy. Therefore, for the month of August it is better not to engage in new projects or major decisions.

Monthly Star Positions:

4 Dark Green Star: Untimely in this current age (8). Falls in the southeast of the lo shu (and home) and can represent affairs and family break-up. The impact is greatest to the eldest daughter. The portent is assisting the 4 star energy naturally. To deplete add fire. This will create a sheng cycle while further draining the inauspicious 4 energy. Other stars within the palace (age, mountain, water & annual stars) will dictate exactly what can occur and other potential cures.

5 Sha Star: This star falls in the Center of the loshu grid this month impacting everyone. Depending on the Age star and other stars within the gua will determine exactly what you can expect. This star represents illness and overall problems. By in large a metal sound helps to dissipate this sha energy. Bronze metal is most effective if a metal sound is not feasible. The portent is assisting this sha energy so avoid all earth here for this month.

6 White Star: Falls to the Northwest this month. This star is usable in an 8 period due to the relationship between the earlier and later ba-gua systems. Inherently, this star has long lasting energy in most of the 9 ages and base point on the loshu granting white star status. Timely can represent authority, wealth & power impacting the patriarch in the home. This star is gaining qi from the portent. You can offer more assistance to the portent by adding earth; however, depending on the age star for this portent & the remaining stars in the gua will determine overall proper cures.

7 Red Destructive Star: This star falls to the West for this month and receiving assistance of qi for this sha star, this is problematic. This star is untimely for this current age and can represent robbery, fire, trouble with the law or tragedy. Skin or dental problems can also be an issue. The impact is greatest for the youngest female in the home. Draining this energy is best with virtual water (meaning not actual water) as you do not want to agitate this star. Again, other stars in the portent will determine exactly what is going on and best approach for cures.

8 White Star: This high energy star (current age) falls to the Northeast portent this month. Its energy is extremely high as it matches the current age.The portent is assisting its energy and that is good. This is the money star for this month representing steady growth of wealth. Place your income materials here for the month and support the energy with fire or assist with earth. Bare in mind however, the other stars within the palace must be assessed for proper stimulation.

9 Purple Star: Auspicious in the current age and found in the South portent this month. It’s presence indicates success and promotion in your career that results in income – impacting the middle female. It is also the future wealth star as the 9 period follows this current 8 period. The South (representing fire ) is assisting this star and this is beneficial. Yu may add some wood; however, depending on the other stars in the palace will determine exactly what to expect and other potential cures.

1 White Star: Great energy in this current age and white star status. Falling in the North portent makes this a great area for studying this month and gaining wealth. The 1 energy is receiving qi from the water portent. For further support add metal elements to allow qi to flow and feed the auspicious star. Again, being mindful of the host star and other star energies (year, mountain and water) can pinpoint the best remedies.

2 Black Star: This sha energy falls to the Southwest this month. In this current age the 2 star represents sickness impacting the matriarch, intestinal system and abdomen. Metal (bronze) is the best cure with a metal sound being highly penetrating. Depending on other stars in the palace will determine the outcome and any other potential cures.

3 Green Star: Usable in an 8 period but must be watched for windfalls. This energy falls within in the East portent and great for starting a new business and potential wealth. The portent is assisting this energy. Just be aware of possible windfalls; if so, add fire to calm this energy down. Other cure indicators are the remaining stars within the palace.

Flying Star is a complex system that shouldn’t be taken lightly. This newsletter report only provides the month energy. For a full analysis other information is needed, as your home will have its own separate energy that can interact differently with these monthly stars. It is highly recommended for a competent flying star consultant to assess your energy personally.

Beef Up Your Fun This Summer Without Going Anywhere

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the July 30th, 2010

Summer Fun At Home

summer fun

Whether it is a day at the beach, a dip in the pool or a simple backyard barbecue, this is the time of year that motivates us to sit back and enjoy the warmth of these long lazy days. The question is…Are you actually doing anything to enjoy this summer or are your days jam packed with “things to do.”

Gear up for Some Summer Fun:

To get the energy moving in the right direction you need to take charge of what’s going on in your space. Recharge the “fun” area of your home inside and out and watch how your social life kicks it up a notch.

Step 1:

Locate the Western portent of your space by standing in the center of the home with a compass.

Step 2:

Take notice of what you have in this area of your home. Is there anything that suggests “fun?”

Step 3:

Place any of the following images or elements in this area of the home:

Images of fun things to do

Music
Picture of where you would like to vacation
Whimsical artwork
Artistic pottery or sculptures
Round or oval objects

Step 4:

Have some fun outdoors too by adding any of the following in the Western portent of the yard.

Stone seating area
Yellow and white flowers in artistic clay pots
Game area (bocce ball, badminton, volleyball net, etc.)

When you set the intention for some summer fun and take that intention into the physical world through symbolism and imagery, you will be surprised how quickly you will live out the intention. So this summer why not get the energy in motion and experience the kind of fun that sometimes only exists in our mind.

Enjoy Your Summer!

Living Your Yoga ~ Regaining A Sense of Calmness

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the July 20th, 2010

A peaceful mind is a peaceful spirit~

Yoga is a simple inexpensive way for regaining a sense of calmness in your life. Let’s face it, life is hectic with a frenetic pace that seems to take charge of everything we do. A small piece of calmness is worth its weight in gold. So how can you get it? It’s as simple as 1, 2,3… Or the yogic breath known as three part Dirgra.

Dirgra Breathing:

Sit in a comfortable crossed-legged position or lie down. Relax the face and the body and begin to draw the breath through the nose allowing the belly to fill up with your breath. Allow the breath to move to the base of the lungs , then the middle lung and finally to the upper lung. On the exhalation, expel the air out from the belly through the nose drawing the naval back towards the spine to make sure the belly is empty of air. Repeat this deep belly breathing for about 5 breaths.

Once you feel calm reflect on all that is good in your life. Contemplate how you can serve the needs of others. By giving back to the world you naturally let go of what “you think” you lack and become comfortable with what is. This is what living yoga is all about.

Yoga Pose For July: Yoga Journal

yoga journal

Opening the Heart Backbend:

2. Place hands either side of hips – finger-tips pointing away from your body.

3. Press hands and feet into your mat and come to a reverse table-top position.

4. Gently raise the right arm skyward and tilt your head back.

5. You may place your right hand toth eheart.

6. Repeat and raise your left arm.

Enjoy Your Summer!

9 Star Qi ~ July Forecast

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the July 12th, 2010

rock water image

Summer…Palm trees, ocean breeze, salty air & sun-kissed hair!

Your personal energy has 3 types of qi. The first one (natal number) has the greatest impact and comes from the most timely star. This makes ups 60% of your personality. The second type of energy is known as the emotional or childhood number and represents the relationship you have with friends and family (future timely star). The final 20% of your qi comes from your tendency number (past timely star). This is how you are viewed in the outside world.
Calculating Your natal Number: This is based on the solar Calendar (start Feb 4-5). Using theosophical reduction (adding all your birth year numbers together and subtract this number by 11. If the number is greater than 10 reduce to a single digit and then subtract by 11.

Example: 1968 = 1+9+6+8 = 24 (24 is greater than 10) = 2+4 = 6 and 11 — 6 = 5 The natal number is 5.

Your natal number can be any number from 1-9.

The emotional or childhood number and tendency number requires charts to ascertain. So for the purpose of this newsletter we will simply examine the natal number and its impact for the month of May.

For the energy of 2010 regarding this system, visit my blog page: http://5elementdesigns.com/blog/ and scroll down to “9 Star Ki 2010 Forecast.”

Month ~ July (6). July is a 6 month, therefore the number 6 takes the center position in the loshu grid. Just look for your natal number directional position below and see what the majority of your energy is for the Month of July referring to this system only.

Natal # 3 sits in the Southwest: This month is a slowing down of energy for you. It is important to listen to the advice of others. It is not a good idea to start anything new this month but rather strengthen relationships you have. If relationships are not strong you may dissolve them this month and make better ones. Be careful when eating out and food poisoning for this month. You may have experienced some type of skin condition this month.

Natal #4 sits in the East. The energy is rising here so this month things seem very bright and promising. You see a great deal of progress in what you are doing. It’s a great time to accomplish your goals, as you have the confidence to do so. Great for travel and starting new things, but be flexible when doing this and show respect for elders.

Natal#5 sits to the Southeast. A good month for achieving success. Whatever you were working on last month should be coming to fruition. Be careful of upper respiratory infections this month. Good relationships will continue to flourish. It is time to take stock of your many blessings instead of craving for more things.

Natal #6 sits to the center palace. When your number is positioned here it is best to avoid drastic changes for the month. Take the advice of others this and have patience. Watch your heath this month as you it may fluctuate.

Natal#7 sits in the Northwest. For this month the energy for you is about prosperity. Its a month where you reap the benefits from previous activities. Continue to follow your natural desires and watch your finances grow. It is a time of experiencing the bigger picture and broadening the mind perhaps with new travel destinations. It may also be a time for spiritual renewal. Just be careful not to overdo it because you may find yourself exhausted with difficulty sleeping.

Natal#8 sits to the West.Your efforts this month are beneficial and continue to go smoothly. It has been a good month for established patterns, activities and your health, but just take caution with seasonal changes. Take extra care of your teeth this month and watch out with your relationships with the opposite sex. There is a tendency for jealousy. It is also a creative type of energy for you this month bringing new ideas into fruition and just trying new things.

Natal#9 sits to the Northeast. This month could be a time you change your home, job or way of thinking. You may find new meaning in your life throughout this month. Inner changes take hold for self-development. May not be the best month for you financially but if you are careful it will not be too bad. This is the month you gain a new understanding of your health so your diet may change. Mental fatigue is possible so exercise is important.

Natal#1 sits to the South, the house of brightness. This is a good month for you but just be careful of extremes. Great time for relationships with others in what you want to do. Working from a firm foundation is key this month, as you will find new ideas just pour in. Be careful around fire for the month and be aware of your health — cardiovascular and infections. It is a time to enjoy every aspect of your life without excess.

Natal#2 sits to the North. This is a good month for mental and spiritual development. Keep your expectations moderate as progress is slow. Your health is good just be conscious of your diet. Eating less actually bodes well for you this month. Be careful around water and travel. Your relationship can be difficult this month. You may also find yourself reflecting on your life and any unresolved issues come to the forefront.

Enjoy your month!

Metal (bronze) is the best cure with a metal sound being highly penetrating. This is important because the portent is feeding this sha energy. Depending on other stars in the palace will determine the outcome and any other potential cures.

3 Green Star: Usable in an 8 period but must be watched for windfalls. This energy falls within in the North portent and great for starting a new business and potential wealth. This star creates a sheng cycle to the portent but be aware of windfalls, if so, add fire.

Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one.

Electro-Stress and Dis-ease

Posted in Feng Shui News by Administrator on the April 30th, 2010

Are Your Appliances and Communication Devices Making You Sick?

Give your body a break and optimize your living and working space with these helpful tips.

The most important aspect during a feng shui analysis is the evaluation of qi or energy that pervades the living and working space. Measuring its quality determines the overall health and vitality the occupants will experience. Qi is life sustaining, and when in harmony, promotes healthy and prosperous living. When in disharmony, life is filled with ill health and challenges. So what causes qi to become discordant? There are various sources of problematic qi ranging from extreme weather patterns, poor quality land, geopathic stress, environmental toxins, poor building construction and materials, to electromagnetic emissions.

Today, in this fast paced technology oriented society, we expose our bodies to what is commonly referred to as “electro-stress.” Electro-stress is a vibrational energy that is emitted from the motion of electrical charges, or when an appliance is turned on. These emissions vibrate at a frequency that is exceedingly higher then the human cell vibratory rate. To understand this dynamic fully, we need to define what an EMF (electromagnetic frequency) is and where it comes from.

Electromagnetic Spectrum

Electromagnetic fields are everywhere in our environment including in nature and the planet itself. These fields, along with all energy, originate on the Electromagnetic Spectrum EMS). There are many different categories of energy that lies within this spectrum. The higher you move on the spectrum, the faster and more powerful the sinuous wavelength (oscillations per second).

The human cell vibrates at rate between 0-22 hertz. and is compatible with nature’s natural fields. Magnetic field discharges from appliances (cell phones, computers, TV’s, etc.) emit frequencies ranging between 50 hertz to 100 gigahertz. These high level frequencies influence the human body’s low magnetic field frequency by stimulating nerves, muscles, and other biological processes.

Living Safely With EMFs

The reality is none of us are going to give up our modern conveniences. So the key is to learn how to live intelligently with them. We can all take simple measures to protect ourselves from these electromagnetic infractions. One of the key areas in your space to evaluate is the bedroom. This is a room we spend 1/3rd of our life. During sleep our cells are 200 to 10,000 times more vulnerable to our surroundings. Therefore, it behooves us to eliminate EMF sources in this space.

bedroom

Remove clock radio and telephone from close proximity to bed and place at least 6 feet away. The greater the distance the weaker the field.

~ Do not store batteries in your nightstand. Batteries are a powerful source of stored energy and can impact your own energy level.

~ Install a demand switch for the bedroom levels. These switches convert A/C (alternating current) to D/C (direct current) for greater compatibility to the human cell.

~ Avoid electric blankets and water beds. The coils in these objects from a criss-cross of residual electromagnetic emissions.

General EMF Precautions

Other areas in and around the home or workplace where you can be proactive in protecting yourself against electromagnetic emissions include:

~Reducing or completely eliminating the use of microwave ovens. The magnetron device in this appliance can produce a very strong wavelength capable of breaking the molecular bond in human cells.

~Remove all fluorescent light fixtures. Incandescent bulbs are safer.

~Use cordless keyboards and mouses on computers. The greater the distance between you and the monitor the better.

~Use cell phones at a minimum.

~Keep satellite dishes off the house and place them on the property (60 feet) from structure and surround with healthy vegetation.

~Avoid living near train stations, substations, cell towers and high tension wires.

~Make sure all your equipment is in good working order.

~Disconnect remote devices and avoid holding them in your hands or lap while watching TV.

~Minimize synthetics in your space, as they produce a static charge.

~Incorporate plants that purify especially, Peace lilies, Ferns and Rubber plants.

~Use salt candles or salt lamps to increase the amount of negative ions (fresh air) within the space.

~Do not use a laptop on your lap.

~Place protective EMF tabs on your appliances.

~Eat a diet rich in antioxidants.

There are a great number of electro-stress devices within our environment that present a risk to our health. The most obvious form of protection is to avoid these frequencies all together. Realistically, these fields are a part of our world, so we need to learn how to live safely with them. Give your body a break and follow the aforementioned precautionary measures to optimize your living and working environment for healthy living.
